Fluxless Aluminum Welding

A new fluxless aluminum welding rod has been developed that can simplify repairs on virtually all grades of aluminum alloys including zinc and magnesium compositions. Alumaloy is a low temperature (716°F) or (380°C) aluminum welding rod that can be used to close holes or bridge gaps as large as 10mm or a little over 3/8 inch in diameter. This aluminum welding rod is an ideal candidate for repairs on items such as aluminum boats, small engines, grills and many other items around the home or shop that get dropped and broken. Of course, you will need to clean off any oxides or scale to insure a quality weld.

The repair procedure is similar to soldering and no other specialized equipment is required. A regular air-propane or air-acetylene torch will provide more than enough heat to perform the job. The edge of each piece to be joined is first heat and tinned or buttered with a layer of Techno-Weld and allowed to cool. The second step is to join both tinned or buttered pieces together and re-apply heat until they fuse. The resulting joint is nearly as strong as mild steel and has good mechanical properties as well.

Compared to the cost of replacing a cracked or broken engine crankcase on a dirt bike or a cracked drive enclosure on an outboard motor, these aluminum repair rods can quickly pay for themselves with just one repair. You can buy these low temperature aluminum repair welding rods on Ebay for a low price compared to competitor products:
