Don't try to learn welding in a union outfit. There is to much nepotism in unions, and you defitnately don't want to be a boilermaker, unless it is purely shop work. If you want to join a union where you can enjoy welding, in spite of my advice not to, join the pipefitters union.

Join a union if you want to be treated like crap, no returned calls from the BA, work stoppage=go home, you're not my brother in law=you have nothing coming, you're ignorant and hard headed and screwing the clock=we need to fight for this guy.I quit local 36 in STLMO and my quality of life began improving almost immediately. Union workers are some of the hardest working people I know, it's too bad the locals don't listen to their members.

Omg. I love being a welder. I'm the only girl in my class and the guys are hard on me but it's anamazing job. I just tell them to f*ck off. I love what I do and I hope to get a job one day. I go to a vo-tech school in high school and i'm 15. and already i'm on stick welding.

Yes you do wear a helmet, however with multiple welders all around you, the arc light comes from all around you- Up, down and all around- when you are in a work environment like that. Not when you are welding alone. You just can't bock out all of the ultra-violet rays.
